Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is PathwayOregon?
  • PathwayOregon is a promise that tuition and fees for academically qualified, Federal Pell Grant-eligible Oregonians will be covered by federal, state, and institutional grants and scholarships at the University of Oregon. For students selected for the additional housing award, the UO ensures that they have grant funding equivalent to the cost of university housing's double room with a standard meal plan each year. In addition, PathwayOregon students will have grant assistance to cover the cost of their enrollment in a course designed to help them polish the skills they need to be a successful university student.
  • How do I apply?
  • There is no formal application process. You must only be admitted as a freshman and meet the criteria listed under "Am I Eligible?"
  • Can I still get financial aid if I don't qualify for PathwayOregon?
  • Absolutely. Last year, about 61 percent of UO undergraduates applied for and received a total of more than $66 million in financial aid. If you do not qualify for PathwayOregon, you will be considered for grants, work-study programs, loans, and scholarships to help cover costs. The key is to apply for financial aid by having an official FAFSA on file with the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships on or before March 1. You also need to apply for university scholarships by the appropriate published deadlines.
  • If I receive benefits from PathwayOregon, is it possible to receive more grants and scholarships?
  • Yes, many students served by PathwayOregon will receive grants or scholarships beyond the cost of tuition and fees. Your financial aid award letter will list any other scholarships or grants you are eligible to receive. Most students receive awards from a combination of financial aid programs, including grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study.
  • Do part-time or dual-enrollment students qualify for PathwayOregon?
  • No. Only full-time students enrolled for a minimum of twelve credits at the University of Oregon each term qualify. For eligibility details, see the "Am I Eligible?" section.
  • Who's paying for this?
  • Resources for PathwayOregon come from federal, state, and university programs, including funds provided through private donations.
